Huw Roberts’s career has spanned Westminster, Whitehall and public and private companies, as well as running his own successful consultancy providing political insights and advice to a wide range of clients.

Huw started his civil service career in the mid-1970s in the Welsh Office. He worked in the Department of Energy, NEDO, No 10 and the Welsh Development Agency before leaving the public sector to become head of the Press Office at ITN. His business experience embraces the privatised utilities (he was Director of Corporate Affairs at electricity company Swalec) and other major companies.

Huw was Senior Special Adviser to Rt Hon Ron Davies, MP, the Labour Secretary of State for Wales, who oversaw the devolution campaign before his spectacular cabinet resignation - the first of the Blair administration. Huw’s part in managing the fallout was featured on television and in newspaper articles, including the Sunday Times Magazine.

Huw has recently revived his eponymous company, after leaving BBC Wales, where he was the Board member responsible for public policy, press relations and promotional work.

Huw counts his work in helping to create Glas Cymru as one of his most successful projects. This unique model of utility ownership was secretly opposed by many Whitehall departments. By building up overwhelming political support for this new form of mutual ownership for Welsh Water, this opposition was overcome, bringing lasting benefits to consumers in Wales.
